I believe the idea of a Southern family brings thoughts of joy and warmth, the preconception is that a southern family always displays a sense of protection and security. However that is not always how it happens. I remember the story of a young boy, who was always rejected by his family. It appeared that his family was the cause of all the corrupt actions of his life. An example of his family's rejection is his fathers abuse after a long night of drinking; or his mother constantly bringing boyfriends over to his house(after his father's death; boyfriends that would assault him and his siblings. The young man always had a connection with his sister through these troubling times. The bond that they shared was unbreakable by assault or any other hardships that they went through. The boy became successful later in life, and his sister found a wonderful husband, settled down, and has four children. The only way that they achieved such fortune was by their bond with one another. This is a great example of "the ties that bind".
