Decoration Day, is a Southern tradition that families celebrate on every Sunday in May, yes, every Sunday in May. A day when families return to their "Family Church" and place flowers on the graves of their loved ones. Also, it is a day to remember family members who have "gone on to a better place." They tell many stories on Decoration Day, some true, some made up, and some are of unfulfilled dreams.
Everyone waits with anticipation for lunch, because all the ladies have cooked their special dishes to share with everyone. The food is always great and plentiful.
Usually, a quartet sings gospel music from the end of lunch until dark. They sing the old gospel favorites and some of their own creations.
So any Sunday in May, when things are slow, find a Southern Church for a day of celebration. Come hungry because everyone is welcome and the food is great.
