Okay, I am a exception to the whole concept of growing up in the South. I live in East TN. Although technically that is considered part of the south, people do not live like Southerners. I was born and raised in Sevier County. My life was spent shopping at malls, cruisin' town, eating at restaurants with friends, and at car shows. In addition, my hometown is not exactly the most friendliest place. We often yell at tourists for their ignorant driving, and guys never hold the door for girls. Before coming to Martin, that was unheard of to me. Most of my first year here I was ridiculed for my lack of knowledge about agriculture classes, tractor days, and farming. I am glad that now I have knowledge about these things, but I am still upset how people think that I was deprived. I loved the way I grew up and wouldn't take that back for anything. I agree with Haley that family is whatever you make of it.
