Though I don't fully believe in the typical stereotypes of a southern lady, I do think are many differences between these women and others who have lived in very different envrionments. Southern culture is based on a lot of tradition and histroical pride, and I think the traditions and societal expectaions of a proper, dignified lady of poise with "Southern manners" is still an important part of life in the south, still the way many raise their kids. THese are the traditoins and customs they were taught to be refined and socially acceptable. Girls were supposed to be truned into poised, polite ladies who enjoyed socializing, who could still hold the proud family name. I know it's a complete generalization to say all southern women are raised like this, and of course, that is not true. But I think it is still a large part of current Southern culture and still something which sets it apart from the norm of other places.
