    I am not clear on any distinction between lady and woman. I grew up in the north but I don't think that has anything to do with whether or not I see a difference. I don't know if all ladies are women but not all women are ladies is a true statement. Is it akin to man gentleman? But "southern women" to me creates very special images of dresses, strong perfume, lipstick, "big hair" and bows. Certainly not all female people from the south would fit this description. This is just an image that comes to mind
