You might consider me a Southern Woman...I am originally from Texas. You probably have seen me around campus... I am the only girl who frequently wears a cowboy hat. Yet, I do not feel sounthern. Many people have mistaken me to ba a northern woman when they hear the hatless me speak (I speak very quickly!!). The only trademarks of my origin are my hat (of course) and my favorite word "y'all". Honestly, I don't think that the area of the US inwhich you were raised determines whether you are a southern woman or not. There is much more to a Southern woman than that. They are the women who work hard, are kind to all, and have a motherly spirit. I know someone who is definitely a southern woman. She cooks for everyone, will help anythbody with just about anything, she is my second mother. She cooks, cleans, gives wonderful advice, and is trustworhty. She is the kind of woman that I can rely on being there to help and support me the rest of my life. Yet, she doesn't have riches, or gold, or even petticoats. She has a heart of steel to withstand tough times that are so common to her and she can do anything with a wrench! ;) She is truly amazing! By those definitions, I cannot be considered a southern woman.... there are few people who deserve that respectful title. For those of you who do, I congratulate you and I can only hope to be half the person southern women (who are from everywhere) are and have been. Also, FYI- Tenneseeans have more of a southern accent and drawl than most Texans! Surprise! :)
