I feel that there is too much emphasis put on the wealthy
ladies of this time period. They were all I ever heard
about. Mrs. Scott did an excellent job describing the women
of the south. She talked about all the classes of women.
She also talked about how all women had to work very hard.
I was glad that she said this. When I studied southern
women in previous years, the textbooks made it out that the
upper-class women did not work. She gave me a whole new
way of seeing the women of the south. I have always lived
in Tennessee. I am just glad that someone finally stood up
and said how the southern women really were in that time.
