The distinction/non-distinction between "women" and "ladies" is an interesting one. Oddly, even though many people seem hazy about how the definitions differ, they have little difficulty in distinguishing between the following sentences: 1. She's only twelve years old, but she's a lady already. 2. She's only twelve years old, but she's a woman already. Clearly, there's a huge difference in the implications.
