Music Major Audition Requirements:
If you plan to pursue a degree in Music Education, Music Performance or a Bachelor of Arts in Music, the following requirements apply to you. Please contact Dr. Simmons if you have questions regarding the audition requirements.
CLARINET
All major scales, slurred and tongued
Chromatic scale, low E to high G (if possible)
One slow, lyrical excerpt:
This can be a slow movement from any Weber Concerto, any Stamitz Concerto, the Mozart Concerto, either Brahms Sonata, etc. or an equivalent slow etude from any Hite or Rose etude book.
One fast excerpt:
This can be a fast movement from any Weber Concerto, any Stamitz Concerto, the Mozart Concerto, Saint-Saens Sonata etc. or an equivalent fast etude from any Hite or Rose etude book.
Sightreading:
You will be expected to sightread at your audition. Selections will vary.
SAXOPHONE
All major scales, slurred and tongued
Chromatic scale, low Bb to high Gb (if possible)
One slow, lyrical excerpt:
This can be a slow movement from any standard saxophone sonata or concerto on the difficulty level of: Handel Sonata No. 3, Eccles Sonata, Bozza Aria.
You may also choose a slow etude/movement from the Ferling etudes, Hite etude (any book), Teal collections, etc.in substitution.
One fast excerpt:
This can be a fast movement from any standard saxophone sonata or concerto on the difficulty level of: Handel Sonata No. 3, Eccles Sonata, Bach Sicilienne and Rigaudon.
You may also choose a fast etude from the Ferling etudes, Hite etude book (any book), Teal collections, etc. in substitution.
