UTM was recently awarded a grant totaling $371,744 from the
U. S. Department of Education's Business and International Education
Program (Title VI). This grant will fund a two-year "Global Business
Education through Partnerships Program: Internationalizing UT
Martin's
Business Program and the West Tennessee Business Community." Exciting
components of this project include engaging students in international
travel study; revising the International Business curriculum to
incorporate foreign language and global experiences; and initiating the
International Business Scholars Program (IBSP), the International
Business Lecture Series (IBLS), and an annual Global Trade Symposium. As
the name implies, however, the program will target a much broader
audience than that of UTM's students. It will provide business leaders
and faculty, as well as students, a means to reshape their educational
and training priorities by acquiring knowledge about the global economy
(global awareness); to gain a working knowledge of other cultures,
languages, and business environments (global competence); and
to participate with business leaders from other countries in cross-cultural
business training programs (global competition).
