International Business Scholars Program (IBSP)

Foreign MoneyThe IBSP is a competitive academic program that will grant, over the next two years, approximately 15 tuition scholarships of $500 each.  Selected juniors and seniors in the College of Business and Public Affairs, with the help of faculty and business mentors, will be expected to create and complete an individualized international business education plan.  This plan will require IBSP students to participate in a minimum of two travel-study/study abroad ventures, each of their mentors accompanying them at least once.  (Grant monies are available to assist the students and their mentors with travel costs.)  The students must then make presentations describing their travel experiences to introductory business courses and civic/professional organizations.  IBSP students also must attend the International Business Lecture Series and present a poster at the Global Trade Symposium.  Additional requirements, such as internship or research, are at the discretion of the mentors and the IBSP Steering Committee.

Interested business majors who have attained sophomore or junior status as of Spring, 2005, should complete the "Application for International Business Scholars Program (IBSP)" (click on this link to download a copy), then submit the application, along with a copy of a current CAPP report from "Banner," to the office of Dr. Tom Payne, 109 Business Administration Building.

International Business Lecture Series (IBLS)

The International Business Lecture Series (IBLS) will focus on the importance of international business to West Tennessee and will educate business leaders further about global opportunities for their products and services.  Beginning in Spring, 2005, this series will bring executives of companies operating in Tennessee and the mid-south region to campus to speak to students, faculty, and local citizens about the global operations and objectives of their companies.  Other well-known persons possessing unique perspectives on international business may also be invited to speak.  Follow-up sessions with small groups of junior and senior business majors will be held to discuss topics more deeply.  Subsequently, both as a reinforcement of learning and an assessment of the program, students attending the lectures will write a one- to two-page analysis of the lectures given.   Photo of Dr. Susan Bies

When the last dates for Spring 2005 have been finalized, a glossy brochure will be made available listing all featured speakers.  Watch here for links to that brochure!  Meanwhile, UT Martin is pleased to announce the first speaker in this series:  DR. SUSAN BIES, member of the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System.  Click here for more information about Dr. Bies and her upcoming lecture on February 7th.
