Information
Professor Putman has taught accounting and business courses for over 20
years at the University of Tennessee at Martin. Dr. Putman retired on
January 1, 2008 and is currently teaching accounting courses on a half-time
basis as Professor Emeritus at the University.
He has previous teaching experience at a private college. Dr.
Putman is a Certified Public Accountant licensed by the State of Tennessee and
is a member of the Tennessee Society and the American Institute of CPAs
and the Tennessee Society of Accounting Educators. He received his
B.S. from Mississippi State University and the MBA and DBA from the University
of Memphis. His hobbies are golf and civic work.
In addition
to teaching, he served as Mayor of McKenzie, Tennessee for eight years and is a member and Past
President of the McKenzie, Tennessee
Rotary Club. Dr. Putman served as a
board member and past Chairman of the Board of McKenzie Regional Hospital in McKenzie, TN
from 1998-2005. Currently, he is a
member of the McKenzie, TN Industrial Board.
He has made presentations at annual and regional meetings of the
American Accounting Association, the Institute of Management Accountants,
Allied Academies International, and the Tennessee Society of Accounting
Educators. He has received seven
research awards for his publications in the past four years. For the last 14 years he has been a Seminar
Leader for the annual “Improving the Accountant’s Professional Skills”
continuing education course offered on the campus of UTM. He has also presented programs for continuing
education before the West Tennessee Chapter of
TSCPAs and the American Accounting Association.
Professor Putman
and his wife, Marilynn have a daughter and a son. Carol Parkins is the
Guidance Counselor at Milan, Tn High School and, Paul is the Defensive
Coordinator and assistant football coach for Henry County High School in
Paris. Paul also teaches office technology courses at HC High
School. The Putmans have three
grandchildren.
