The Mathematics and Statistics Department of The University
of Tennessee
at Martin will sponsor the annual Junior High School / Middle School
Mathematics Contest on Thursday, April
30, 2009. The contest will include
sixth, seventh and eighth grade divisions.
This mailing refers to all three divisions.
Contest information, an enrollment form, tentative contest
schedule, campus parking map, and Boling
University Center
map are included in this mailing. If
your school intends to participate in the contest, your enrollment form should
be mailed no later than Friday, April
04, 2008; to the address provided on the back of the enrollment form. Because of printing and mailing costs, you
will not be notified by mail of our receipt of your enrollment form. However, if you will include your email address on the form, I will notify you by email
of receipt of your form. If you prefer
you can check the contest web page; I will keep a list of schools currently
registered, the contest schedule, and other details on the contest web
page. The contest web page is http://www.utm.edu/~desireem/contests.html.
Each student is assigned a five digit number that should be
used as their identification on their exam.
Your school code number is : . Your student’s identification number is found
in the following way: The first digit refers
to grade level (6, 7, or 8); the next two digits are your school code; and the
last two digits are the student number on the enrollment form for their grade
(01, 02, 03, …). For
example, if I am taking the seventh grade test, my school site number is 78,
and my name is on the line numbered 6 then my identification number for the
contest is :
77806 .
The contest will be held on The University of Tennessee at
Martin campus in the Boling
University Center. A registration table will be located in the
foyer of the Watkins Auditorium which is in the northwest corner of the University Center on the first floor. Please
plan to stay for the presentation of awards as all participants will receive
mementos for participating in the contest.
The test fee is $5.00 per contestant. We prefer that you send payment (in the
form of a check) with your enrollment form.
Please make the check payable to “UTM
Math and Stat Department”. After
testing begins, additional tests will be sold at $1.00 per copy.
Calculators will be
allowed. Students may use any calculator
that does not have a QWERTY keyboard.
There will be 30 questions, and the scoring formula will be 4R – W + 30. Testing time will be 60 minutes.
Registration will
be held from 8:00 to 9:15. We encourage you to arrive for registration
as early as possible. We look forward to
