    Studio Policies

Lessons are 50 minutes in length and extend from the week of September 7 through the week of May 23. A minimum of 30 lessons will be given; any missed by the teacher will be rescheduled. Lessons are in UTM’s Fine Arts Building, Room 233. Make-ups for private lessons may be offered for absences due to sickness or death in the family, but please give notification before your lesson time. Lessons missed for other reasons will not be made up and no tuition will be refunded. If you must reschedule, please do so in advance. When it snows, lessons go right on. Public school closings are NOT followed. If you are snowed in, please call as soon as possible and make alternate lesson arrangements. Otherwise, you will be expected.

The year's tuition is divided into 9 equal payments due the first lesson of each month of the academic year, September through May. Payments are $210 per month and cover tuition, all audition and festival fees, subscriptions to Piano Explorer, all print materials (music and theory), and any extra coaching needed.

A minimum of 5 hours of practice per week including non-lesson weeks but excluding holidays is expected of students in grades 9-12. A minimum of 4 hours of practice per week is expected of students in grades 5-8 and a minimum of 3 hours of practice per week is expected of established students in grade 4 and below. Students who do not practice or progress will be released. All students are expected to participate in all recitals, festivals, competitions, etc., for which they are eligible. Please place these in your calendars now.
