Interests: German (language, culture, food, music, history, soccer...etc!) geography, photography, choral music
Jobs: UTM Instructional Technology Center IT Specialist II
Why German? As you can see above, I am interested in all things German related. Super Deutschland! I got the "German bug" in high school, and I wanted something different and exciting to meet my foreign language requirement at UTM. After visiting Germany in 2006 on the 10-day travel study, I changed my major to Geography to focus on world cultures. In 2009, I successfully defended my University Scholars project entitled "Berlin's Tenth Life: Reemergence as the Unified Capital of Germany" - a two-year study on modern Berlin which include field work in Berlin in summer 2008. Thanks to the UTM German program, I was able to function in the capital of Germany on my own while working with a geography professor to document the city's urban landscape. |

Why German? Not only is German an awesome language in its own right (the language of a lot of music and philosophy!), it's also quite similar to Old English (another interest of mine). Plus, I have (distant) German relatives. |

Why German? My grandmother was born and raised in Germany, so I've always been exposed to German through her. I was even lucky enough to go to Germany twice as young child. Seeing the country first hand sparked the interest in me. |

Interests: Everything! I love anything having to do with Germany (especially the food). I love reading, music and hanging out with my daughter.
Jobs: I am a CNA at a Nursing and Rehab center. It's physically demanding, but the residents are great and I learn new things from them everyday.
Why German? My Grandmother is from Trier, Germany and to be honest when I was young I didn't even know what that meant exactly. It wasn't until a friend pointed out to me at age 10 that my grandma "talks weird" that I started asking questions (I thought all grandmother's had accents) and so began my fascination with Germany. I've always wanted to speak the language but unfortunately my Oma didn't always live close enough to teach me. So I decided that one day I would learn Deutsch. So here I am at 25 finally achieving that goal and I absolutely LOVE it! My next goal is to go to Germany. Then my life will be complete! Sort of. I really need a bratwurst… |
