MARTIN OPTIMIST INTERNATIONAL

FUNdraisers

The Martin Optimists raise funds for support of the previously mentioned activities through their "FUN"draisers.  The events not only promote chapter-sponsored events but also provide fun for members and everyone else who participates.  Although fundraisers may vary year to year, ones that are reoccuring are: The Optimist's View of the Stars, Spaghetti Day, and The Optimist Pancake Breakfast.

Optimists View of The Stars

The "View of the Stars" is a talent show hosted by the Martin Optimists.  Entrants are selected by invitation only to portray a favorite singer, actor, or group.  They do not lip sinc to a recording, but actually mimic the Star.  Each entrant designates a charity or youth organization to which their winnings will go with the audience choosing the top three acts.  Stars which have been mimicked include:  Travis Tritt; Ronnie Milsap; Blues Brothers; Ray Stevens; the Statler Brothers; Boyz to Men; and Jack Benny.

Spaghetti Day

The Martin Optimists have a "secret" spaghetti recipe and each year they sponsor a "Spaghetti Day."  The event is held in conjunction with the Westview High School basketball doubleheader usually held each year in January or February. Tickets are sold and persons are given a good sampling of the special recipe, spaghetti noodles, and crisp green salad with the person's own choice of dressing. During Spaghetti Day this year, the cook estimates we served about 200 adults and 18 children.

Pancake Breakfast

The club conducts a pancake breakfast in conjunction with the local schools' PTO Fall Fest event. The Fall Fest has been held in October with many games and programs for the children. The activity is designed to involve the community. The event raises monies that the PTO donates to each school for purchase of items not included in the normal school budget. These items are then used to enhance the students' learning opportunities.
