- Council for Exceptional Children
"CEC is an international professional organization dedicated to
improving educational outcomes for individuals with exceptionalities,
students with disabilities, and/or the gifted. CEC helps professionals
obtain conditions and resources necessary for effective professional
practice." Information is given on standards, training, and CEC
publications.
ERIC
Clearinghouse on Disabilities and Gifted Education
This Clearinghouse "gathers and disseminates the professional
literature, information, and resources on the education and development
of individuals of all ages who have disabilities and/or who are
gifted." Links are provided to a wealth of materials including
research, projects, digests, fact sheets, minibibs and FAQs, listservs,
conferences and the law. A database is provided for searching the 1000+
OSEP grants and contracts.
FRC
- Federal Resource Center for Special Education
Under the auspices of the U.S. Department of Education’s Office of
Special Education and Rehabilitative Services, this site provides
financial, policy-related, and legal resources, information on trends in
special education, and a conference calendar. An annotated Internet
resources list is categorized by disability.
LDA
- Learning Disabilities Association of America
"LDA advances the education and general welfare of children and
adults of normal or potentially normal intelligence who manifest
handicaps of a perceptual, conceptual, or coordinative nature." Its
web page provides a list of publications, fact sheets, bulletins, and
links to state LDA pages and resources.
National
Clearinghouse for Professions in Special Education
Information for professionals employed in Special Education or students
interested in the field. The site includes files on special education
careers, professional preparation, resources for educational
interpreters, financial aid, job searching, and personnel retention.
NICCYD
- National Information Center for Children and Youth with Disabilities
"NICHCY is the national information and referral center that
provides information on disabilities and disability-related issues for
families, educators, and other professionals, focusing on children and
youth from birth to age 22." An 800 number is provided for
information and referrals as well as many full-text publications.
Searches of their database and library may also be requested.
OSEP
- Office of Special Education Programs
"OSEP is a component of the Office
of Special Education and Rehabilitative Services (OSERS) in the U.S.
Department of Education. Its mission focuses on the free appropriate
public education of children and youth with disabilities from birth
through age 21." The site includes information on the Individuals
with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA ‘97), program-funded activities,
a guide to safe schools, technology for students with disabilities.
