GEOGRAPHY 365 - Tennessee's Geologic and Cultural Landscapes

This course is also offered as GEOL 365.


Geography 365 is a multidisciplinary, team-taught course that presents lectures and field excursions which emphasize the interactions of geology and culture in Tennessee. 

 

Geologic topics include:

  • Physiographic regions and geologic history

  • Landforms

  • Structural and tectonic history

  • Natural and economic resources

  • Environmental issues

Cultural topics include:

  • Settlement history

  • Economic development

  • Political patterns

  • Distribution of populations

Attention is given to current state issues.

 

A multi-day fieldtrip to East Tennessee (Chattanooga, Gatlinburg, and other points) in late March 2008 is planned.  Students will be expected to cover basic expenses for lodging, meals, some admission fees, and incidentals.  The department will provide transportation.

 

Prerequisites are: GEOL 110-112 or GEOG 201-202
