Introduction to Cultural Geography
3 credit hours
Prerequisites: None
GEOG 202 is an introduction to the patterns and processes of the world’s cultural systems, landscapes, and built environments.

- Geodemographics
- Population Growth Models and Issues
- Cultural Diffusion
- Migration and Residential Mobility
- Diffusion of Indo-
European Languages - American Regional Dialects and Their Diffusion
- American Tongues (documentary film)
- Religions of the World
- Sacred Spaces
- Folk Culture
- Urbanization
- Urban Morphology
- Transportation and the Shaping of the Metropolis
- Surburbia and the “American Dream”
- Urban Revitalization
Some of the above topics are supplemented by geographical case studies.
Students are evaluated through four exams and several assignments; a term project is also usually assigned.
Readings are assigned throughout the semester.
