WELCOME:
I am a Professor of Geography in the Department of Agriculture, Geosciences, and
Natural Resources.
TEACHING RESPONSIBILITIES:
I teach a diverse group of courses which support the Geoscience-Geography curriculum
and other degree programs at UT Martin.

SERVICE:
I have been on staff at UT Martin since the mid-1990’s and served as the chair of
the former Dept. of Geology, Geography, and Physics between 2002 and 2009. I am
the President-Elect of the Faculty Senate of the university for the 2012-2013 academic
year. I also am a member of the Honors Council. In 2011, I began my second 3-year
term as a member of the Review Board for State of Tennessee’s Historical Commission
which considers nominations to the National Register of Historic Places.
RESEARCH INTERESTS:
My past or active research projects include:
- The evolution of “big box” retail stores and commercial strip landscapes
- The historical and economic geography of Tennessee and the Tennessee River valley
- Historical representations of Reelfoot Lake
- The history and geography of the American lodging industry
- Energy-impacted communities of the Rocky Mountain region
