Potential partners must meet five basic criteria:
  • Applicants must be full-time residents of Weakley County for a minimum of one year.
  • Applicants must have a need for housing, either because they currently live in housing that is physically substandard, or because they are spending more than 50% of their income on housing.
  • Applicants must be willing to put 200 hours of "sweat equity" into the construction of their homes and the homes of other partners. (This may involve 20-30 hours of work per month beyond their regular employment.)
  • Applicants must have the ability to make monthly house payments. They must not have excessive credit card debt or multiple bills in collections (excluding medical debt). They must not have declared bankruptcy in the last three years. They must also have had stable income for the last twelve months.
  • Finally, applicants must meet our annual income guidelines. The total household income for all individuals 18 and over who plan to live in the home must fall within the following ranges for FY2011:

6 $16,450 $32,900

The application requests detailed information about the sources of the applicant's income and the sources of income for every member of the intended household 18 years or older. It also inquires about present housing conditions, monthly bills, and any assets and debts. A signed application will authorize us to run a credit report and perform various background checks.
