Leslie LaChance is an Assistant Professor of English and Coordinator of Composition at the University of Tennessee at Martin, where she teaches composition, creative writing and literature courses. She organizes the UT Martin Young Writers Conference held each fall, serves as co-advisor to the campus literary magazine, Beanswitch, and is co-advisor to the UTM Writers' Guild. Professor LaChance's B.A. and M.A. in English are both from the State University of New York at New Paltz, where she also taught composition and English as a Second Language. She earned a Ph.D. in English from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville. Professor LaChance has taught writing and literature courses at several schools in Tennessee, including Volunteer State Community College, Pellissippi State Technical Community College, The Webb School of Knoxville, and the University of Tennessee at Knoxville, and she taught conversational English in Osaka, Japan. She has also worked as a journalist, technical writer and editor, writing coach, poetry workshop leader, special education teacher's aid, restaurant server, housekeeper, retail clerk, camp counselor and child care provider.
