Romance Genre
The romance genre is full of passion, emotion, love and meant to go straight to your heart. Romance films are usually meant to make people feel happy and loved in the end. There are a vast selection of romantic films to choose from because there are several subgenres such as a romantic comedy or romantic drama. Romantic films serve as great escapes and fantasies for love-struck couples or even for someone who is single and just wanting to curl up and feel good. Most often romances are full of ups and downs and then “happily ever after.”

An example of a romance would be The Notebook. The Notebook is based in the 1940’s on two people who come from completely different families, Noah Calhoun and Allie Nelson. Noah is a hard working, country boy who doesn’t have a lot to his name. Allie is daddy’s little girl, living in a mansion, going to perfect schools, and staying in a small town with her family for the summer. The two meet and have a summer love, then have to go there separate ways and lose contact. Many years later the movie shows how your first love is never forgotten when they reunite.

Another romance is Dirty Dancing. Dirty Dancing is about a young girl, Frances 'Baby' Houseman, in the 1960’s on vacation at a mountain retreat with her family. She is a quiet, reserved young lady who loves to please her father. She is not much into dancing until she meets Johnny Castle, the retreat’s dance instructor. Baby ends up offering to help Johnny out when his partner Penny has something to do during one of their performances. This favor ends up bringing the two together more then they realize and in the end she has to choose if love is more important than what her father wants for her.
