"Treat people as if they were what they ought to be, and you help them to become what they are capable of becoming"

Johann Wolfgang von Goethe

Hello, my name is Marti Herndon.  I teach child development and family relationships classes here at UT Martin.

I began my career as a governess from 1970-71, then as a teacher-aide, teacher, lead teacher, then director for early childhood programs from 1971 until 1985. I have taught child development and family relationships at Western Washington University in Bellingham, Washington (1978-1985) and here at UT Martin (1985- present) for the past 33 years.  I received my Master's Degree at The University of Tennessee, Knoxville in child and family studies and my Ph.D. in individual and family behavior, also at UT Knoxville.

I was a graduate assistant at UTK for four years.  During that time, I worked in the Child Development Laboratory Programs (1974-1978).  At Western Washington University, I was director of their child development laboratory (1978-1985).  I began teaching at UT Martin in fall of 1985.
