General Faculty Meeting

The general faculty meeting occurred today, attended by 43 or 44 faculty members. I know the rough number because we used clickers to guide us through a series of questions. I wanted to use the clickers as a way of demonstrating their value in the classroom, as well as to get polling data from attendees on such things as whether they have ample time to read and research, given their teaching load. Reducing teaching load was something 91% of those attending were in favor of, but as we said in the meeting, making that happen will depend on the costs (numbers are being run now on that) and whether we are willing to cut in some other areas to make it happen. It is unlikely we will get an infusion of state money to make it happen. I am not sure whether there would ever be private-donor money for something like this or not. At least the subject has been broached, which I figure is a start.

Thanks to all who were there.
