Do you think the day will come when people no longer read at all? When they simply watch movies, TV, documentaries, or worse still; simply talk and figure that is good enough? Each successive generation seems to be moving further in that direction.
I myself do not read too many physical books these days, mostly electronic ones and since I drive a long way to and from work, I listen to a good number of audiobooks. But I learned years ago, there is a type of learning that can only be obtained through the written word.
Ever so often I will discover a new writer who reminds me why I first started believing in the power of reading. Recently it was William Faulkner who renewed my passion, but no author has ever done it as well as Raymond Carver. I have recently started rereading some of his stories and remembering why I was bowled over the first time.
What about you? Are there authors whose works rekindle your desire to read?

I’ve never needed that desire rekindled (with apologies and thanks to the Amazon corporation) . . . it’s always there.
Great Chris, avoid the question.
I guess for you it might be Shakespeare? I should have simply asked which author(s) most inspire you, huh? One motivation for my post is what I see among our students – fewer of them seem to be readers these days.
