Student loan debt will soon pass the one trillion dollar mark and as a Professor at UTK says in his blog, it may well be that with higher education we are looking at the next big bubble. That may be in some ways; but our mischaracterization of a public college education as something other than a public good, is a bigger problem than the instrumentality of college degrees for jobs; for it says we have lost faith in the power of our society to generate and disseminate enough knowledge to maintain itself.
