Dr. Wesley Cornelious McClure



Dr. Wesley Cornelious McClure is the President of Lane College. He is a native of Jackson, Tennessee, where he graduated as Valedictorian from Merry High School in 1960. He received his Bachelor's degree in mathematics with honors, from Lane College in 1964. He continued his education at the University in Virginia and earned the master and doctorate in Mathematics Education and Educational Research in 1968 and 1970, respectively. In 1971, he received a diploma from the Institute for Educational Management, Harvard University.

Prior to assuming the presidency of Lane College, Dr. McClure worked in the following capacities: President, Virginia State University, 1988-92; Chancellor and Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, Southern University at Baton Rouge (SUBR1981-88; Executive Assistant to the President, Saint Augustine College, 1979-Dean of Faculty and Instruction, Clark College, 1978-79; and Assistant to the President and Title Ill Coordinator, Lane College, 1970-78.

Dr. McClure is a distinguished educator and speaker. He has made numerous
presentations before a variety of organizations and business entities specializing in higher education policy and issues of access, opportunity and quality.

Significant memberships include: Past Chairman and Member, Board of Directors, National Association for Equal Opportunity in Higher Education (NAFEO); Institutional Director, The College Fund/UNCF; Chair and Member of the following UNCF committees: Accreditation, Agenda, Government Affairs, Executive, and Nominating; Member, Commission on Government and Public Affairs, American Council on Education (ACE); Member, Policy Steering Board, Alliance for Equity in Higher Education; Chair, Nominating Committee, Commission on Colleges, SACS;
Executive Committee, Tennessee Independent Colleges and Universities Association (TICUA); and Member, Commission on Governmental Relations, National Association of Independent Colleges and Universities (NAICU).

Dr. McClure is married to the former Mary Bradley of Germantown, Tennessee. They have three children: Wesley II (Karla), Associate Vice President for Research and Development, Lane College; Carter Bradley (Marsha), Internal Auditor, Lan College; and Dessalines McLeod Pieh (Hingha), a third grade teacher in the Memphis City School System, Memphis, TN. They have four grandchildren, Wesley Ill, Julieanne Lane-Elise, Gabrielle Bradley and Madelyn Elizabeth.
