Earth Day 2005

The following announcement was sent to members of the Kentucky Lake Section and others prior to celebration on Friday April 22

American Chemical Society has designated this Friday as Earth Day to focus attention on the environment and the practice of Green Chemistry. The theme is " AIR - Here, There, Everywhere." The unifying activity for this event is Kite Flying. Kentucky lake Section of ACS and UTM SAACS will be celebrating this at the Pacer Pond this Friday from 4 to 7 or 8 PM.

We are organizing a kite flying competition this Friday, April 22. There will be prizes for the biggest and the smallest kites, most decorated kite, the kite that develops the most tension on the string, that kite that flies the highest, etc. Categories for competition would be: age groups 6 through 12 years, 13 through 18 years; and college students: from UT-Martin, Bethel College, Lambuth University, Union University, etc.

We will order KFC chicken as needed and have drinks, plus a mini demonstration involving the common pollutants. No fixed price except for a contribution to a collection cup. Call it a picnic, a social, an earth day, environment awareness day, but don't tell nobody "Go Fly a Kite" instead say come fly with us kites.

All this at the PACER POND grounds across the road from the UT-Martin University Center and the Library between 4 and 7 on Friday. Bring family.
