205 National Exam for International Chemistry Olympiad

The following announcement was sent to the listed high school teachers:

Based on the scores in the Chemistry Tournament at Murray or the 25th Annual High School Science Bowl in Martin, the following students have been nominated to compete in the national exam that may qualify them to become members of the U.S. National Chemistry Olympiad team that will compete in the 37th International Chemistry Olympiad IChO) in Taipei, Taiwan July 16 -25, 2005

Please have the students report at Johnson Engineering Physical Science Building at UT-Martin for this exam at 9 AM on Saturday, APRIL 16. The examination consists of three section: Part I (90 minutes) is a multiple choice test, Part II (105 minutes) requires written responses and Part III (90 minutes) is a laboratory practical. You and the students can look at the previous national tests and answers by going to ACS homepage (http://www.chemistry.org/) , then Education, then Chemistry Olympiad, National Tests, and then access the archives http://www.chemistry.org/portal/a/c/s/1/acsdisplay.html?DOC=education\student\co02.html.

For travel of more than 25 miles, each student will be reimbursed $25 and the lunch will be provided. The exam should be over by 3 PM.

Twenty students will be identified nationwide based on the performance on this test and will undergo intensive training June 6-20 at the U. S. Air Force Academy in Colorado for the International Chemistry Chemistry olympiad.

Please let me know by April 4 if your students will participate.

Recognition certificates for the students and teachers will be awarded if your school participates.
