Larry Stewart has over 27 years experience working with Hazardous Waste as on operator, manager, auditor, and consultant.  He earned his BS degree in Chemistry from Union University in 1979.  Since that time he has spent many years as an industrial chemist working with consumer products and providing environmental monitoring services.  Mr. Stewart is a Certified Hazardous Materials Manager and is the current Vice President of the Golden Circle Chapter of the Hazardous Materials Managers Association.

 

Dr. Al Hazari

A 2000 recipient of the ACS Helen M. Free Award for Public

 Outreach and the 2002 Science Educator of the Year awardee from the Tennessee Science Teachers Association, Al Hazari, a native of Lebanon, attended the American University in Cairo and received a B.S. degree in chemistry in 1968. He also holds an M.S. degree in chemistry (1972) from Youngstown State University (OH) and a doctorate in science education (1997) from the University of Tennessee-Knoxville. From 1968 to 1971, Al taught middle and high school science, math, and chemistry. He was a chemistry instructor and lab coordinator at Tougaloo College in Jackson, MS from 1973-76. This was followed by a 15-year stint as instructor in chemistry and director of labs at the University of Mississippi in Oxford. In 1991, he joined the University of Tennessee-Knoxville Chemistry Department as director of the undergraduate chemistry labs. Al also teaches science education courses in the College of Education. He has received many grants from government agencies, industry, and various organizations to improve undergraduate chemistry lab instruction and to support pre-college hands-on science and chemistry school visits and teacher workshops. Al is a very active member of the American Chemical Society (ACS). He is an affiliate of the Institute for Chemical Education and a member of the National and the Tennessee Science Teachers Associations. Al is currently the National Chair of the ACS Committee on Chemical Safety.

Gary W. Mansfield

The University of Tennessee - Martin

Mr. Mansfield has nearly 40 years of experience as a chemical stockroom manager.  He earned his BS degree in Business Management with a minor in Chemistry from UTM in 1988.  He currently serves as the Academic Support Specialist managing the business of managing UTMÕs chemistry laboratories.  He has been a member of the National Association of Scientific Materials Managers (NAOSMM) since 1981 and was given their highest award, ÒManager of the YearÓ in 1988.  Mr. Mansfield has continued his education through the years with specialized training from the U.S. Department of labor Occupational Safety and Health Administration and The Laboratory Safety Institute.  He holds certifications from the International Association of Administrative Professionals and The Laboratory Safety Institute.  He has been recognized by UTM as Employee of the year and as Outstanding Staff Member by the College of Engineering and Natural Sciences.

 

 

 

 

Beth Brubaker

                             Beth Brubaker is the Laboratory, Safety, and Waste Coordinator at Murray State University.  She earned her BS degree in Chemistry from Murray State University and her MS degree in Chemistry from the University of Kentucky.  She accepted her current position at MSU in 1993 after 12 years as an analytical chemist for Arkansas Eastman and BF Goodrich.  Her responsibilities at MSU include supervision of stockroom and instructional laboratory operations, with emphasis on laboratory safety and waste management.  This includes training and oversight for 20-30 student employees, and teaching a lab safety course.  She is a membership of the American Chemical Society and the National Association for Scientific Materials Managers (NAOSMM).
