Can I get those?

In Outlook 2000, the Import and Export wizard can be used to import addresses and messages. However, Microsoft Outlook XP and Eudora 5.0 are incompatible for the purpose of importing addresses, although messages can be imported using the Import and Export wizard. Thus, another method must be used to transfer addresses from Eudora to Outlook XP. Overall, this method involves exporting the addresses from Eudora to an external file and then using Outlook XP to import the external file. The details are as follows...

Step 1-7

Step 1:

Open the Eudora Address Book. The Eudora Address Book can be opened by using the main program Tools menu and selecting Address Book, or by using the keyboard shortcut Ctrl+L.

Once the Address Book has been opened, the contents can be saved to a file for export into Outlook XP.

Step 2:

To save the contents of the Address Book, select the File menu and choose the Save As… option.

This will open a Save As window where the location to save the file can be specified.

Step 3:

When prompted to Save as type, choose CSV Files.

A CSV (Comma Separated Values) file is one in which the values delimited by commas. This format is understood by many programs so its a safe format to use if native import/export filters are not available.

Step 4:

Give the new file a name of your choice and click the Save button.

Please note both the filename and location of this file, as Outlook will import the addresses from this file.

Step 5:

Start Microsoft Outlook XP if not already running.

Step 6:

Use the File menu to select Import and Export…

This action will start the Import and Export Wizard.

Step 7:

Select Import from another program or file from the list of actions to perform and click the Next > button.

After the Next button is opened, the Import a File window opens. Microsoft Outlook XP supports importing information from other programs or files, including ACT!, ECCO, Lotus Organizer, Personal Folders (*.pst), Schedule+, and other files and programs.

Steps 8-15

Step 8:

Select Comma Separated Values (Windows) from the list of file types to import from and click the Next > button. This will open the next Import a File window.

The Import a File wizard has many formats and file type from which to import data. Note that a CSV file was saved earlier, so now that file will be imported using the CSV import filter.

Step 9:

Click the Browse… button to search for the CSV file saved earlier.

This will open a Browse window from which one can choose the file to import. Although a file is listed in Step 9, it may not be the file needed for this operation.

Step 10:

Use the Browse window to find the CSV file saved earlier.

Once your CSV file is located, click the OK button. The location of the CSV file will then be listed in the Import a File window of Step 9.

Step 11:

Once the file has been located, click the Next > button.

The next window to open will allow the choice of destination for your imported contacts.

Step 12:

Choose the Contacts folder and click the Next > button.

The next Import a File window will open presenting a list of actions to be performed.

Step 13:

Click the checkbox next to the Import “Addresses…” entry to enable the Map Custom Fields… button. Then click the Map Custom Fields… button.

This will open the Map Custom Fields window.

Step 14:

Drag the values from left side of the Map Custom Fields window to its corresponding destination field on the right side of the window.

This is called mapping. Note that there is a multitude of fields available to map. Scroll through the options to include all desired fields.

Once the mapping has been completed and all fields have been mapped, click the OK button. Microsoft Outlook now has enough information to begin the import process. After the process is complete, the newly imported addresses will be available in the Contacts folder below.

Step 15:

View Contacts information for any editing purposes after importing.

After importing the contacts, it may be necessary to review the contacts so that any needed adjustments can be performed
