Tricky Spammers
Outlook Express has always had filters to sort your mail so that you could sort your mail in a way that was suitable for you. When we began the plague of spam, they also came in handy to sort those to the trash. Now days that doesn't work so well.
Why does it not work now?
Most of the time the filters are set to filter by from addresses. The spammers have caught on to this and adjusted accordingly. Now the have the from address to change so that you can't just block their address.
Lock it down!
The solution is to tightly control who you receive from.
- Add the addresses of the people you know add like into your address book if they aren't already`there.
- Open the rules window by selecting Tools->Message Rules->Mail...
- Click on the New button at the upper right.
- In the uppermost pane, put a checkmark in the box labeled Where the From line contains people.
- Click on people in the bottom pane.
- Add all the people you know you like, then click OK.
- In the middle pane, put checkmarks in the boxes labeled Move it to the specified folder and Stop processing more rules. (You'll probably need to scroll down.)
- Click on specified in the bottom pane and select a folder to put your spam into.
- Click on OK buttons until the windows are closed.
This will require that someone is added to your address book before you can receive email from them, but it is better than being spammed to death!
