Communications Career Day and High School Workshop

These events will be held on Oct. 12 and Nov. 3, 2011, respectively. All Communications majors are required to attend the Career Day events, and all Communications minors, AgComm and others are encouraged to attend. Communications majors also are encouraged to help with the High School Workshop. Mark your calendars to attend Career Day. As more details become available, I will post them here and announce them in class.

Southeast Journalism Conference convention

The Pacer student newspaper and WUTM student radio station are longstanding, award-winning members of SEJC and typically attend the annual convention. We don't have far to travel this year, though, because we are finally -- for the first time! -- the convention's host school. We are extremely excited about the convention, planned for Feb. 9-11, 2012, and we are working diligently to make our convention not only educational and memorable, but also lots of fun for all who attend. Contact me if you're interested in helping the convention committee pull this off!

Internships

All Public Relations and Visual Communications majors must complete Communications 475, the Internship course. The choice of internship venue is primarily up to you, with department approval. You must get contracts for your internship experience from me before you begin, and you must give the contracts back to me quickly so that I have contact information for your internship supervisor. While the class doesn't "meet," you are expected to meet with me individually to provide internship updates, and you must write a self-evaluation of the experience and turn it in to me before I can assign your grade for the course.
