The University of Tennessee at Martin Department of Communications

Unit 1: Multimedia Websites

Project #1

Due: February 12, 2008

How to submit:
Submit your completed site by loading the project folder into the comm324 folder on your WebDav. After loading everything on your Webdav server, go back through the site and make sure all the links work and images and other media load correctly.

Create a folder called comm324. Inside that folder create a folder called lab1. All your files for the lab assignment need to be placed in the lab1 folder. Remember to call your homepage index.html. You will move the comm324 folder and all its contents to your Webdav server.

Minimum Requirements (must exceed to receive an A or B):
Create (or recreate) a personal webpage. Many of you created a personal website for COMM 323. You can use that as a starting point or you can begin from scratch.

You need to include at least three pages (you can name these anything you desire):

Make sure that you have a consistent navigation menu throughout your site and that each page can be easily accessed.

Your site needs to include at least three photographs or graphics. A background image that appears on each page will count as one graphic. You can get snippets of code to embed photos that you store on photo sites (Flickr, etc.). It is perfectly acceptable to do this on your project.

You need to include at least one “video” element. This can be an actual video clip or you can create a slideshow of various photos.

You must apply an external stylesheet to each of your pages. (You might want to consider setting up a printer-specific style sheet for the resume page.)

You can use the templates included with Dreamweaver or alter templates found elsewhere. Just make sure you give appropriate credit where needed.

While it is acceptable to use templates, it is not acceptable to have someone else do your graphics work. Do you own work to the best of your ability. You might find the Adobe Kuler (kuler.adobe.com) site helpful when choosing colors. There is a short tutorial on iTunesU demonstrating the site. Don’t forget about the Creative Commons website. You can search for graphics, photos, templates, and other website elements that you can use.
