How do I get tryout information? Go to Tryout Page on this site Do we cheer for football and basketball?
Yes
What do I need to be working on to try out next year? Tumbling,
Partner stunting, heel stretches, toe touches, smiling, great attitude.
If I am interested in UTM can I come to a practice? Certainly...contact us and we will arrange it. What is the main trait you are looking for? Talent and a positive attitude. What are you looking for at tryouts?
Roundoff
back-hand-spring is the minimum in tumbling. The more
advanced tumbling the better. Good jumps. Ability to learn a
routine fast. Sharp motions. Excellent facials and smiles. Good heel stretches. Excellent grades. Proper height/weight ratio.
What happens if I miss classes or practices? You are
here FIRST for an education, then cheering. Missing either will not be tolerated.
How many scholarships are available? This can vary. Some people may be asked to be on the squad and not receive a scholarship. A person could be a good potential but not quite ready for cheering at a collegiate level. We would look at taking that person in hopes of them improving for the next year. What do I have to buy? Uniforms, wind-suits, shoes, practice clothes, bag, etc. are furnished by the Cheer Squad. Meals between double headers are furnished. Travel expense is furnished. Will cuts be made at Tryouts? Probably, that is the decision of the Cheer Staff. I can't tumble, will that hurt my chances? Yes, if enough try out that can tumble and are equally as talented in other areas. I've heard practices are tough, are they? We practice to be the best that we can be. Anything less is not enough. When would cuts be made? At any time. It could be 10 minutes into tryouts, that is the discretion of the Cheer Staff.
