Changes to Student Websites

As a continuing process of upgrading student services, we have retired the mars system which has housed student web pages since UT Martin began allowing students to publish sites.

IT Services has migrated any current student pages from the Mars system to the new location. Traditionally, students have been able to find their webpages by going to a URL resembling http://mars.utm.edu/~username. We have done some work to make sure the old url will function with the new location. The new site addresses resemble http://www.utm.edu/students/username. Student organizations will find their sites at http://www.utm.edu/organizations/orgusername.

With the new server location, there is also a new method of updating your pages. This new method is Secure WebDAV and provides a graphical interface approach to file transfer with drag-and-drop functionality. Additionally, computers in our general purpose labs have a W: drive mapped to your web directory which will allow editing as well.

Should you need to modify permissions on a file or folder so that items may be written by a webpage (ex. guestbook, page counter, etc.), you must make those changes from a lab computer. To make a file writeable, you must give write permission to the ApacheWeb user.
