Timothy C. Johnston . Homework directions and hints. End-of-chapter Questions
It is always a good idea not to wait until the last minute to complete homework. Computers crash, networks go down, and printers jam at the worst possible moment. Remember that you can "take a break" when this happens, and turn in an assignment (2 per semester) up to a week late or at "last call" for assignments, whichever is sooner. You can always turn in an assignment early. Homework assignments are designed to encourage you to read the chapter and understand key concepts, and are an important source of exam questions. Here are suggested procedures for completing homework:
End of Chapter Questions (EOCQ) are short answer questions from the textbook (at the end of the chapters).
1. Read the chapter.
2. Write a rough draft of your answers to the EOCQ.
3. Re-read the section in the textbook that answers the questions, and revise your answers. Double-check that you answered all parts to the question. List where the questions say list; discuss where the questions say discuss; give examples when examples are called for.
4. Type each question, followed by your answer. Leave a space after your answer for taking notes in class.
5. Spell-check your paper.
6. Feel free to make notes on the paper if the questions are discussed in class. Turn in your paper at the time it is collected.
7. Generally you will receive full credit for a paper if it represents a bona fide, original attempt to complete the assignment. (Bona fide means the answer reflects an attempt to synthesize material in the textbook into an answer; papers with questions and no answers, or BS answers, do not earn credit. Original means your own attempt to synthesize the textbook material; word-for-word copy from the textbook, or papers from multiple students that are nearly identical, do not earn credit.)
