Certifications for Online Faculty LMS Orientation Course: Canvas

Canvas Level 1: Basics

Faculty will successfully complete the self-paced Module 1. Content will cover the tools in the Global Menu, Announcements, New Quizzes, Assignments, Discussions, Accessibility tools, SpeedGrader, and the Gradebook. Approximate time for completion = 2-4 hours.

Canvas Level 2: Intermediate

Faculty will successfully complete the self-paced Module 2. Users will utilize advanced tools of the Canvas Learning Management system including Groups, Course Outcomes, course pacing with Modules, Collaborations, and external tools.

Canvas Level 3: Advanced

Faculty will successfully complete the self-paced Module 3. Faculty will demonstrate mastery of Canvas tools that promote faculty/student, student/content, and student/student interaction.

Certifications for Faculty in Online Teaching

Online Teaching Mastery Level I

Faculty demonstrate effective use of Canvas tools and online course design through their new or revised courses that they focused on during the Summer Online Teaching Workshop.

In addition to their meeting or exceeding the workshop rubric, the participants will also submit a reflection from the semester that they teach the course. This training is appropriate for faculty who teach online and for faculty who use Canvas in their in-person courses.

Online Teaching Mastery Level II

Faculty demonstrate effective use of Canvas tools and online course design through their new or revised courses that they focused on during the Summer Online Teaching Workshop. Following the Summer Online Teaching Workshop, faculty will work with their Teaching Square colleagues to reflect on their course goals, what is working, and what needs to be done differently.

For Students

PEP Leader Certification

PEP Leader training will ensure students are fully prepared for the vital role of PEP Leader. This training will include multiple topics since PEP Leaders have various job responsibilities (co-instructing, resource referrals, community building, etc.). Upon completing this certification, students will be equipped to lead classroom discussions, refer students to appropriate resources, and serve as social and professional peers for their GENS 101 students.
