R.E. Ellis Papers
1942-1943

R.E. Ellis was the United States Department of Agriculture's county agent for Weakley County, Tennessee from 1913 to 1943. He is credited with initiating agricultural education programs and improving methods in farm management in northwest Tennessee. The collection consists of two reports completed by R.E. Ellis detailing the history of agriculture in Weakley County, Tennessee from 1843 to 1943. The first describes the transition of early farming techniques to methods used during the early and middle 20th century. The second report discusses the role of the Agricultural Department's County Agents, particularly those in Weakley County, from 1913 to 1943. Included are numerous personal stories on Weakley County's farming community.
