Higgs Family Papers
1837-1925
The Higgs family papers contain correspondence, deeds, receipts, account ledgers, notebooks and other financial and legal document of the Higgs family of Weakley and Henry Counties of Tennessee from 1837 to 1925. The bulk of the letters are written to or from Martha Bates Higgs (1812-1873), James A. Higgs (1845-1862), Thomas J. Higgs (1844-1922) and Thomas Clarence Higgs (1873-). Included is a genealogy of the family, a few Civil War Letters, an "Oath of Renunciation and Allegiance" to the United State (1863) and documents relating to the Spring Hill Academy of Henry County where Thomas J. Higgs was a teacher.
