Wright Family Papers
1861-1996
The Wright family resided in Obion County, Tennessee in the communities of Troy and Union City from 1857 to 1892 and then in Chicago, Illinois from 1893 to the late 1920's. Charles Wright was a private school educator, Civil War Veteran and court reporter. The collection contains correspondence, deeds, wills, receipts, notebooks, newspaper clippings and other financial and legal documents of the Wright Family of Obion County, Tennessee and Chicago, Illinois from 1861 to 1996. The bulk of the letters are written to or from Charles M. Wright and Fannie Ann Wright while in Obion County (1884-1892) and Chicago (1893-1925). Included are a genealogy, Civil War prison photographs, a description and history of a chair Charles Wright received while imprisoned at Rock Island, Illinois (1864-1865), now on permanent display at the Paul Meek Library on the campus of the University of Tennessee at Martin,documents relating to his career as a criminal court reporter in Chicago (1893-1904) and family letters and photographs.
