HISTORY NOTE : Virginia Clark Vaughan known as "Miss Jenny" retired in 1982 as a history teacher from Martin Junior High School. She held a two-year degree from UT Junior College and a bachelor's degree from UT Martin, later earning a certification in elementary education. Besides her work as a teacher, she authored Cary Lawn, A Special Place; People and Places in Downtown Martin; and rewrote and updated Weakley County History. She served for three years on the Tennessee Bicentennial Commission and also served on the Weakley County Bicentennial Committee. She was honored by UT Martin during 2001 with the Chancellor's Award for University Service. During her tenure as Weakley County Historian she also developed and researched the First Families of Weakley County.
