Grow your language skills and cultural knowledge.

A major in Spanish includes lower-division courses on language development and at least 24 semester hours of upper-division courses taught in Spanish by fluent professors, some of whom are native speakers. Courses include topics in language, culture, civilization and literature and require students to both speak and write in Spanish. A language-immersion program is required and can take the form of a study-abroad placement, short-term travel study, exchange program, international internship or other approved experience.

“What I enjoy the most about the English and Modern Foreign Languages department is that all the professors take time out of their day to help, encourage, or read the academic or creative writing of students, which is an essential part of my major and person. ”
