Welcome!

The University of Tennessee at Martin offers a stimulating and challenging educational experience and an exceptionally beautiful campus. The faculty and staff are committed to the goal of providing a hassle-free stay that is as safe as possible on a campus that offers the opportunity for intellectual growth.

One of the primary missions of the University of Tennessee at Martin Department of Public Safety is to provide a safe and orderly environment for the University to conduct its day-to-day business with minimal interruption. The Department of Public Safety Officers are fully commissioned in the City of Martin and by the State of Tennessee for on campus property and surrounding areas. They have the same responsibilities and authority as your hometown police departments. They are on duty 24/7-365!

In December of 2013, The University of Tennessee at Martin Department of Public Safety received full accreditation by the Tennessee Association of Chief’s of Police by meeting established standards of professionalism and accountability to the public we serve. Accreditation is a continuing process and the department is committed to maintaining the progressive standards set by the association. The department received their second award in 2018.

The University of Tennessee at Martin remains one of the safest Universities in the state when compared with other four year institutions of higher education. This can be directly attributed to the high quality of students and faculty/staff that attend and work at UT Martin and the genuine concern they have for the safety/security of each other.

On this site you will find the Annual Security and Fire Report, crime prevention tips, emergency response procedures, parking and traffic regulations, and other information to assist you in making your experience at UT Martin safe and enjoyable.

Please remember there can never be a 100% guarantee one will not become the victim of a crime and the main responsibility for one’s personal and property safety always remains with that individual! By developing a “security mindset” of remaining aware of your surroundings, taking preventive measures, and locking up/keeping control of your property, you can greatly reduce the chances of becoming a victim. Make safety and security issues part of your everyday planning.
