Aquaculture Facility

The aquaculture facility includes two separate venues on the UTM Teaching and Demonstration Farm.

One venue is in the northernmost barn and it houses eight large tanks with separate water filtration and feeding mechanisms. This facility has been used to conduct feeding and growth studies of farmable fish species such as tilapia.

The second venue includes six, 0.1-acre aquaculture ponds on the west side of Farm Road, across the road from the Graves Stables paddocks. These ponds are regularly used for a variety of research and teaching projects that include fish growth/production studies, crawfish population dynamics monitoring, and pond-management studies that address suspended sediment issues.
