Beef Cattle Teaching Center

Academics

The Beef Cattle Teaching Center sits on 30 acres of cool and warm season pastures. The barn encloses 8 permanent concrete feedlot pens designed for ruminant nutrition research. The barn also houses 12 breeding stations with ample space and opportunity for students to get their feet wet and experience reproduction first hand.

During the spring semester the stocker-feedlot class rotationally grazes one load, roughly 60 head, on 20 acres of fescue pastures from March through June. During the fall and winter the spring cow/calf herd is rotationally grazed on stock piled fescue to maximize forage utilization and minimize winter hay feeding.
