Office of Campus Recreation Website Information for the use of the Student Recreation Center and the Elam Center by registered students for the 2020 Fall Semester

As the University of Tennessee at Martin moves closer to the beginning of the 2020 Fall Semester, the following plans have been made to provide limited recreational services once the semester begins on Monday, August 17. Only UT Martin students registered for the Fall 2020 semester with proper identification will be allowed access to the Student Recreation Center, The Elam Center, and The Elam Center Swimming Pool during the posted hours of operation for each facility.

 

All UT Martin faculty/staff, retiree and alumni individual memberships, and all UT Martin faculty/staff and retiree family memberships will continue to be suspended until further notice. Also, The Elam Center Swimming Pool will be closed to the general public throughout the 2020 Fall Semester.

The Student Recreation Center

  1. Monday through Friday
    6:00 a.m. to 8:00 a.m. Open for Recreation
    8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Facility Closed
    2:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Open for Recreation
  2. Saturday and Sunday
    1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Open for Recreation

According to the most current COVID-19 guidelines for recreational facilities as set forth by the CDC and the Tennessee Pledge, the following areas in the Student Recreation Center will be closed to all students:

  1. All Racquetball Courts
  2. The Second Floor Classroom
  3. Men’s and Women’s Locker Rooms
  4. The Second Floor Cycle Room
  5. Second Floor Fitness Room
  6. Drinking fountains will be shut down except for the water bottle option.
  7. All leisure/lounge areas will be closed.

The following services in the SRC have been suspended:

  1. Guest privileges (current students will not be allowed to bring guests)
  2. Towel services
  3. Equipment check out

The following activities in the SRC have been suspended:

  1. The leisure and team play of basketball, volleyball, soccer, badminton and any other activity where social distancing is not possible.
  2. The Walking/Jogging Balcony individual fitness areas (corners of the walking/jogging balcony)
  3. Leisure recreation games and activities in the lobby

Other guides and provisions:

  1. All guest privileges are suspended until further notice. (NO GUESTS ALLOWED)
  2. Equipment check out options have been suspended until further notice. (NO EQUIPMENT CHECK-OUT)
  3. Unless actively recreating or working out, all patrons must wear a PPD.

Guidelines for Fitness and Activity Areas

  1. Fitness/Weight Room
    • The practice of social distancing should be exercised at all times.
    • Limited to 30 patrons at any given time and a 30-minute workout time limit per person if other patrons are waiting.
    • Each patron will be issued a sanitary wipe as they enter the workout area.
    • Each patron is responsible for cleaning all touch points on their machine of choice prior to and after its use.
    • Dispose of used wipes in the containers provided.
  2. Cardio Balcony
    • 30-minute workout time limit on all equipment if others are waiting.
    • Each patron will be issued a sanitary wipe as they enter the workout area.
    • Each patron is responsible for cleaning all touch points on their machine of choice prior to and after its use.
    • Dispose of used wipes in the containers provided.
  3. Walking/Jogging Balcony
    • Patrons should avoid touching the balcony rails, walls, etc.
    • Side by side walking, jogging, or running is prohibited.
    • Slower traffic will remain in the inside lane.
    • The middle lane is closed. Please pass on the right.

The Elam Center

All formal and informal recreation in the Elam Center except for the swimming pool will be suspended in the Elam Center until further notice. Students will not have access to the Arena, the racquetball courts, and the Fieldhouse for recreational purposes.

 

The Elam Center Pool will be open on a limited basis. UT Martin students registered for the Fall 2020 semester and with the proper identification will be allowed access to the swimming pool during posted hours of operation.

Monday through Thursday

4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Open pool

Saturday and Sunday Closed

Other guides and provisions:

  1. Students should come dressed to swim. The locker rooms will be closed. Each participant will be assigned a section on the pool deck to place belongings.
  2. Social distancing should be practiced at all times while on the deck and in the pool.

The Kathleen and Tom Elam Center is the home of Intercollegiate Athletics and the Department of Health and Human Performance. The Elam Center is located on the west entrance of campus. The Elam Center offers seven basketball courts with volleyball & badminton option, six racquetball courts, an Olympic-sized swimming pool, an equipment check-out area (Rec Check), an interior jogging balcony and an aerobics room. The arena, which seats 4,800, is home to men's and women's basketball and various campus-wide student activities such as homecoming events, concerts, intramural sports, and programming associated with academic speakers, senior preview day, and freshmen welcome week. An adjoining facility, Skyhawk Field House, hosts Greek step shows, smaller concerts, intramural sports, and is the home court for women's volleyball. Intramural playing fields are located on the west side of the Elam Center. Other outside facilities include 16 tennis courts (six lighted) and a 1.5 mile fitness trail.
