Captain’s Closet provides free, gently used professional clothing to students at UT Martin. Students check-in and can receive one free outfit.

Q: How can I be eligible to participate in Captain’s Closet?

A: You will need to schedule a resume and mock interview appointment with a Career Planning and Development (CPAD) staff member and you should have an upcoming interview or career-related event to attend.

Q: When is Captain’s Closet Open?

A: Captain’s Closet is open Monday – Friday from 1 to 5 p.m. in Boling University Center.

Q: How much do outfits cost?

A: Outfits cost students nothing. The Martin and campus community donate the clothing so students can have professional clothing.

Q: Where is Captain’s Closet?

A: Boling University Center, Room 210 (CPAD office).

Q: What if I’m a graduate student?

A: You’re still a student. Any current student is welcome at Captain’s Closet.

Q: What if I don’t want other students to know I shop there?

A: Captain’s Closet is staffed by professionals and individual appointments are arranged by a staff member. We definitely want you to feel comfortable using this resource.

Q: Where can I donate clothing?

A: We accept donations throughout the year. The drop-off location is the Career Planning and Development office in Boling University Center, room 210. For more information, please email career@utm.edu.

Q: What if my outfit needs alterations?

A: Contact Amy Bates in the CPAD office for a list of local seamstresses.

Q: Who runs Captain’s Closet?

A: Captain’s Closet is run out of the CPAD office. The initiative was started in summer 2018 and continues to be a resource for students.
