Kara Tapp currently serves as the Director of the newly opened UT Martin Somerville Center and is an alumna of the University of Tennessee at Martin with a Bachelor's Degree in Communications and a Master's in Education Administration from Cambridge College. Upon graduation from UTM in 2008, she served as an intern reporter at News Channel 3 and an account executive at FM 100 in Memphis. Pursuing her long term goal as a higher education specialist, Kara then became an administrator at Cambridge College where she significantly increased student enrollment in their Masters' Programs. Kara then continued her career as the Fayette County Public Schools Communications Director until her move back to the UT Martin system as Somerville's Director.
Currently, Kara serves on the boards of the Fayette County Exchange Club Carl Perkins Center for the Prevention of Child Abuse, the Fayette County Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee, and the Fayette County Higher Education Advisory Committee. She has served as Treasurer of the Fayette County Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, is a Leadership Fayette graduate and is currently a member of the 2018 WestStar class. Kara fulfills her duties as Director of the UT Martin Somerville Center with boundless enthusiasm and is constantly raising the standard of excellence at the Somerville Center. Her networking, communications, and coordinating skills serve UT Martin and the community well as she takes pride in juggling the duties of a mother, dedicated wife, and career-driven professional.
